For our code review process we built PRmate, a service that reviews every pull request in the GitHub and Bitbucket repositories it is connected to and leaves its findings as comments.
Context
Not every project we work on is built with agentic development.
Challenge
We wanted a review on every pull request that does not block it and tells the tech lead what to look at.
Approach
- Triggered by webhooks. GitHub or Bitbucket sends PRmate a webhook for every pull request, and PRmate reviews the change.
- Comments, not a gate. PRmate does not block the pull request. It adds what it found as comments, in Bitbucket as well as in GitHub.
- Written for the tech lead. The comments point out what the tech lead should pay attention to in the change.
Outcome
PRmate is used intensively on our legacy projects where we do not use agentic development.
